I Rediscovered Ooty with Sterling holiday resorts

I bet you haven’t heard as much about any hill station as Ooty. If you are from the south of this
Incredible India, a visit to Ooty is mandatory, pretty much like a normal thing to happen while you are alive unless you are a…. zombie. When I heard I am invited by the Sterling group to spend a couple of days in Ooty with my blogger friends, honestly, I wasn’t jumping up and down with excitement because the first thought that crossed my mind was ‘same old ooty trip’. Sterling really changed ‘same old ooty’ that was etched in my head. I am talking refreshing, rediscovering and definitely revisiting. I am taking you guys to a stroll down my recent and best memory lane of ooty  Sterling.

Day 1:

We received a warm welcome with a cup of hot lemon tea by sterling resorts  to the chilly weather in ooty(13C). Trust me nothing like hot lemon tea to soothe your body and soul. We were shown to our rooms. Oh our rooms! They were spacious and had everything we needed that includes clean and big bathroom (you know how sometimes bathrooms are the deal breaker) AND a gorgeous picturesque view. It was easy to conclude that sleeping in and looking out of the window was pampering in itself.

We were given a quick tour of the well maintained fern hill property.
Sterling resort is brilliantly located high on a hill in the midst greenery. Its equipped with both outdoor and indoor activities , they have a  library with some interesting collections of books for all book lovers who would love to sip a cup of tea and read a book in that chill weather. You can also pamper yourself and  rejenuvate your body by taking a spa session at the resort itself . One would need a day or two to use all the facilities here .

Included in our itinerary was a visit to Toda village. Todas are Dravidian ethnic group who made Nilgiris their home for centuries. We soaked in a tiny portion of their culture and heritage. I was surprised to know they are originally vegetarians and buffalo milk has a sacrosanct status. We are also not allowed to wear our footwear in their locality . Toda embroidery locally known as “pukhoor” is quite famous. This handicraft product is GI tagged and hence a Government protected heritage.
A toda tribe lifting a 125kg rock . He is now eligible for marriage .
                               Toda house
                               Toda temple

Next stop: mandatory tea and chocolate factory visit. We got to taste some yummy chocolates and different varieties of tea .

We headed back to the resort by evening and sterling resorts surprised us by organising a high tea with some lip smacking snacks .we  girls talked about our day, clicked good pictures  and refreshed ourselves for a fun night .

Another Hill Station ritual that never gets old is bon fire. The sterling group made it more memorable for us by having the Toda and Badaga tribe perform their cultural dance at the bon fire. It was the perfect end to a perfect day at Ooty.

Day 2:
If I wasn’t curious about what was planned for us, I wouldn’t have got out of my cozy room. After a sumptuous breakfast ,We were taken and given a tour of another sterling property in elk hills. They have definitely figured how to offer a beautiful stay right in the lap of nature. Once again they surprised us with a high tea with delicious snacks  and tea .

A trademark of Ooty is the Ooty toy train. A UNESCO World heritage site, Nilgiri Mountain Railway has been operational for more than 100 years. One can never be too excited for this train ride. The one hour ride we had took us over the bridges , tunnels ,curves and into the forest.

How can you not have photos taken from manicured tea plantations when you are in Ooty. That’s what we did next. We went to a private tea estate followed by a picnic lunch. The pictures will do the talking here.

The last night of our trip we spent talking, stretching our feet, had a good girls night in Ooty before we hit the bed. Next day we got home with good memories and even better pictures.

Apart from the places we went, the hospitality we received and the culture we experienced , the highlight of the trip was FOOD. Off course, the easiest way to the heart is through stomach. There was always something to satisfy everyone’s palette. And served with a gorgeous view.

I want to thank Sterling holidays for planning a great trip for us girls. It was wonderful and different. My best Ooty trip yet. Do check out the pictures.
Ooty is the pause we can afford to take in our lives, And we should more often. Sterling resorts Located high in the Nilgiris can literally be the breath of fresh air you need.
